A Great Year at SJB

Friday, June 5 brings the end of another wonderful year at St. John Berchmans School. Over the last year SJB has increased enrollment, installed Promethean Boards in the classrooms of grades 1-8, remodeled the computer lab, and done much more. SJB's staff is already preparing for the 2009-2010 school year--a year that is already shaping up to be the best yet! Remember, the school office will be open all summer from 8am-3pm. Please give us a call or stop by for a visit! Thank you to all of our students, families , and friends for your dedication and enthusiasm. Have a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer!

Congratulations Donna Swinford!

Congratulations to SJB parent Donna Swinford, recipient of this years Archdiocesan Development Council Impact Award. Donna was nominated by SJB for all of the hard work she does at our school. Donna's enthusiastic commitment to SJB is one of the many reasons why we have such a great community. Thank you, Donna, for everything you do!

Sr. Mary Paul Visits SJB
On Friday, April 24, Sr. Mary Paul McCaughey, Superintendent of Chicago Catholic Schools, made her first visit to SJB. Sr. Mary Paul spent the afternoon with us and visited each classroom. Each student and teacher welcomed her warmly and was excited to have her visit our school. We hope to welcome Sr. Mary Paul back at SJB soon!

SJB Students Place at City Science Fair
On March 14 & 15, SJB students partcipated in the City of Chicago Science Fair held at the Museum of Science and Industry. Congratulations to Karina (left) for winning a Bronze certificate and to Alex (right) for winning a Gold Certificate.

Glimmer Auction 2009
Thanks to all who joined us and volunteered for the Glimmer Auction this year! The evening was a huge success and was attended by over 240 people.

All Are Welcome at St. John Berchmans

Santa Visits SJB with State Rep. Toni Berrios

Thank you to State Representative Toni Berrios for visiting our Pre-K and Kindergarten classes on a very snowy Friday morning! Santa and Rep. Berrios passed out gifts to all students in grades Pre-K and K. We appreciate their kindness!

Feast of Saint John Berchmans
Celebrated with School Mass

On Tuesday, November 25, the eve of the Feast of St. John Berchmans, the entire SJB School Community gathered in celebration of our patron saint. Students prepared special banners, songs, and offerings for this event.

Food Drive & Clothing Collection at SJB

During the month of November, SJB School held its annual food drive, and both the CCD and School collected warm clothing for the Refugee Resettlement Program at Catholic Charities.

SJB Chosen as Host Site for Lend a Shoulder Day

On Thursday, October 2, St. John Berchmans School was one of twenty schools in the city chosen to host Lend a Shoulder Day. On this day we welcomed visitors to our school to showcase the wonderful programs at SJB.

State Rep. Toni Berrios attends SJB Walk-a-Thon

On Friday, October 3, St. John Berchmans School held its annual Walk-a-Thon. Despite the early morning rain, the sun began to make its appearance just as the Walk-a-Thon began. We'd especially like to thank Rep. Toni Berrios, the 14th District Police, our Family Association, and St. Benedict's High School volunteers for your assistance on this exciting day!
